What Are Some Tips When Choosing an Agent for My Will?

Good healthcare agents are able to separate their own feelings from yours and your wishes but naturally, they may feel guilt and anguish at having to make such difficult end-of-life decisions so it’s important to communicate early and often with your agent. This can help ensure that both you and your agent are comfortable and at peace with your life-support wishes.

To avoid conflicts, choose just one person to serve as your agent but in case the primary agent isn’t available, be sure to designate an alternate agent. Once you’ve selected an agent, provide them a copy of your living will. Also, it may be helpful to inform your family and physician of your designation.
